The Supra was a sports car produced by Toyota from 1979 to 2002. Its demise was due to restrictive emission standards, and it went away quietly into the night. Or did it? Rumors have been suggesting that the Supra name would be making a comeback and the fact that Toyota has just renewed the "Supra" trademark registration that expired back in 2006, leads us to the one logical conclusion: we will soon be able to drive around in a Supra again.
This evidence may all be there, but no one should expect the Supra anytime soon as Toyota is still busy fiddling around with their version of the FT-86. As if trying to outdo Subaru’s FT-86 wasn’t enough - Hey Toyota, good luck with that - Toyota is also planning on a new MR2 rumored to debut in 2013. So the Supra will be anything but chilling on the backburner until about 2015.
The last generation Supra was powered by a turbo engine with an output of 320 HP at 5600 rpm and 315 lbs-ft of torque, but don’t expect the same to happen with the next generation Supra.


The Engine

Previous rumors suggested that the next generation Supra will be offered with two engine choices: a 5 liter V8 engine producing 450 HP and 383 lbs-ft of torque and a 3.5 liter V6 engine with 350 HP and 275 lbs-ft of torque. But this will never happen, as the next Supra will be a hybrid sports car.
Expect to see a V6 hybrid motor, similar to the FT-HS concept on which the car is based. That should get us at least 400 HP and a top speed of more than 170 mph. After all, we are talking about a high performance sports car.
Exterior and Interior

When Toyota unveiled the FT-HS hybrid sports concept everyone knew that they were looking at the new Supra, but don’t expect the production version to look as radical as the concept. It will actually be a combination of the FT-86 production version and the FT-HS Concept.
One thing is for sure: the new Toyota Supra will be all about sportiness. Expect to see a front end similar to the FT-86, large alloy wheels, Supra’s famous rear wing, and the personal Supra logo will once again appear at the rear.
The Competition

The next generation Toyota Supra will take on models like Nissan 370Z, the next Mazda RX-9, and the successor of the Honda S2000.
When can I get one?

The new generation Toyota Supra will make its official debut in 2015. So don’t expect to have the chance to drive the sports car before 2016. Expect to pay somewhere between $40k to $50k for the new model.

Com a gama actual, mais um sucessor de MR2, FT-86 e supra....sei que é sonhar muito...mas se o fizerem e bem feito, aqueles 51bilioes da VAG para passar a Toyota vao aumentar...

Eu registei-me nisto, já vai fazer 5 anos.
É para a 15ª vez que leio uma noticia de que a Toyota vai fazer um novo Supra, ou comprou o direito a usar esse nome, ou está a desenvolver um carro assim ou assado que se assemelhe a um Supra

Devido ao que disseste estes carros nunca são muito para o nosso mercado...é tanto que a SC nem vende alguns motores!!

Pelo menos sempre vemos alguma vontade na Toyota em evoluir um lado mais desportivo....espero eu...

Penso que nós, os frequentadores deste fórum enquadramo-nos todos na expressão que referi em cima de "meros portugueses". Como tal, tu comprarias um? Terias € para depois o manter? Refiro-me a comprar um, não fazer dele carro de dia-a-dia, mas andar com ele uns bons bocados....não comprar um e depois tê-lo na garagem só para olhar para ele com medo de ir à falência com medo de o meter a trabalhar.....

Já vi essas fotos á uns anos! Para ai á 2 ou 3 visto que isso é um concept de 2007, na altura diziam que o novo supra ia sair lá para o inicio de 2011... Agora já é só em 2015, quando for em 2015 passa para 2023 e por ai adiante!

2015 Toyota Supra Hybrid: 400 HP Hybrid



A short while ago, a rumor indicating that a Supra revival is back on Toyota's table emerged and now we're back with a new piece of news connected to this. It seems that the Supra revival will use a hybrid powertrain to deliver the top thrills expected from it.

According to Motor Trend, the new Supra is scheduled to come to the world in 2015 an offer a hybrid powertrain comprised of a 3.5-liter V6 unit that will produce over 400 hp.

The coupe is expected to borrow certain styling cues from the FT-HS concept released back in 2007 (the one you see in the adjacent image). However, this is about all we can tell you for now, but we promise to be back with more info as soon as we get our hands on it.

According to our man in Japan Peter Lyon, Toyota R&D is working on a Supra successor that is being tested with a 3.5-liter V-6 hybrid system generating over 400 hp. Rumored to be wearing a design close to the FT-HS concept’s body (pictured below) revealed at the 2007 Detroit show, the rear-drive coupe is expected to target the Nissan GT-R in terms of performance and price.

We Hear: New Toyota Supra in Pipeline, Coming with 400 HP Hybrid imageBut our insider tells us that Toyota bean counters “are not too pushing to get this car out quickly,” and are waiting to see how the GT86 goes. If it gets the go-ahead, we won’t see it until 2015.

In contrast, Toyota engineers ARE putting more effort into readying a test mule of the MR-S based 4WD GRMN coupe boasting the same Lexus GS sourced 3.5-liter hybrid system. If this project gets the green light, we can expect to see it in showrooms by late 2014.

However, there seems to be one issue for Toyota product planners. They are in the final developmental stages of a Lexus IS coupe that will be powered by the same powertrain, a fact that creates a differentiation problem for Toyota.

A four-wheel-drive hybrid successor to the Toyota Supra is back on the cards – and this is how the newcomer could look.


The move follows the excellent reaction to the GT 86 – and sources have suggested the new Supra will ride on the platform used for the GRMN concept.


That car featured a modified MR2 chassis and mid-mounted 245bhp 3.5-litre V6 engine, with an electric motor driving the front wheels. The total was around 300bhp.


That powertrain is likely to be carried over into the production car, but with two in-wheel electric motors at the front, rather than a single motor powering both of them. The engine will deliver power to the rear wheels through a CVT gearbox from the Lexus RX. Total power from both sources would be around the 400bhp mark.


Expect to see a 0-62mph time of just over four seconds, which will put the Supra into direct competition with Honda’s upcoming NSX.


The project has yet to be given the green light by Toyota bosses, but if CEO Akio Toyoda has his way and the economy shows signs of recovery, the new coupe is likely to be in showrooms by late 2015, priced at around £70,000.
