REBELLION RACING PLEASED WITH UPGRADED LOLA-TOYOTA CARS AFTER LE MANS 24 HOURS TEST DAYPOSTED BY TEAM IN PRESS RELEASE ON APRIL 24, 2011
The Le Mans 24 Hours Test Day was an important date on the REBELLION Racing 2011 agenda. The Swiss team used the occasion to test two heavily revised Lola-Toyota LMP1 cars, each with a new aerodynamic kit, new front suspension, a longer wheelbase and the introduction of the wider front tyres supplied by Michelin.
As the only opportunity to test on the unique Le Mans 24 Hours circuit, the test day was of paramount importance ahead of the race in June. The team’s six drivers, Neel Jani, Nicolas Prost, Jeroen Bleekemolen in the Lola-Toyota #12 and Andrea Belicchi, Jean-Chistophe Boullion, Guy Smith at the wheel of the #13 completed a high number of laps, thus carrying out important development work and gathering valuable data for the engineers in the team, Toyota Motorsport and Lola Cars.
After 8 hours of testing on the famous Le Mans 24 Hours circuit, the REBELLION Racing team were satisfied with what they found. All the new developments pleased the drivers and the engineers were reassured about the potential of the car and its line of progression for the forthcoming Le Mans 24 Hours race as well as the remaining rounds of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup and the Le Mans Series.
Bart Hayden, REBELLION Racing Team Manager: "The improvements on the car are all pointing in the right direction and should help us improve our performance at the 24 Hours race. We already have a good understanding of the new configuration of the Lola-Toyota and where to work for the further development of our cars. We leave Le Mans with a lot of data and information. However, this test day at Le Mans has highlighted a fact that we feared, the current 2011 regulations have not effectively addressed the equivalence between diesel and petrol engines. We could understand a 4-5 second gap which would be in line with the ACO’s intention of an acceptable 2% difference, but 10 seconds is way off the mark. We hope that the ACO will look seriously at this situation in the next few weeks. In our case, as usual, we'll concentrate on our work and the next race at Spa. We will focus on our races and work hard to target the best position overall."
Lola-Toyota #12
Neel Jani: "Many new features have been tested this Sunday, we started to find satisfactory options for the near future. When you see how we are passed in the straights, it's hard to believe that only the aerodynamics makes all the difference. We know the technical superiority that the factory teams can have, but 10 seconds a lap is a lot, the difference now between us and the top diesel cars looks like Formula 1 and GP2."
Nicolas Prost: "We can be satisfied with our day. We arrived with a new package and quickly found a suitable balance. We were able to work in detail on the set-up even though we only had one day of testing. It’s not much time to assimilate the information with many interesting features in the car. However, we can only be sceptical about the current engine regulations given the lap times achieved on this day. "
Jeroen Bleekemolen: "Today was a big day test with a lot of things to try and we went through our programme. We learned a lot today. There is now a lot of work to do to transform the feedback into improvements for the race. Then it will lead us to make a difference..."
Lola-Toyota #13
Jean-Christophe Boullion, "We essentially tested a new car today. Everyone gave his opinion, and tonight we have a better understanding of how it works. We still have much work to do to maximize its potential, but based on my own experience, I now have the certainty of a more efficient car. Our next race at Spa-Francorchamps will be for the car, a very good reliability test before Le Mans 24 Hours race."
Andrea Belicchi: "The whole team worked well today. Data that we recorded will be valuable to develop the car for the 24 Hours. I already felt a benefit from the improvements. We will probably lack a bit of top speed on the straights, it appears that the regulations still largely benefit the diesel cars..."
Guy Smith: "Given the large number of improvements on the car from Le Castellet, today was for us an extended shake-down on the Le Mans circuit. In terms of pure performance, we do not really know where we are because of issues of equality between diesel / petrol and even petrol / petrol. We learned a lot and now have adequate information to analyse. This day will therefore help us to grow to be in the best form possible in a month and a half."
The next race event for REBELLION Racing and both of their Lola-Toyota cars will be the 1000 km of Spa from 5th to 7th of May, that race being the second round of both the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup and the Le Mans Series.

E tambem as diferenças entre gasolina e Diesel !!
Open or closed cockpits, technologically ultra-sophisticated, the LMP1 cars battle for the overall race win. In this category, there are the powerful Audi R10s, the high-performance Courage Orecas, and also the Lola Coupés with the Aston Martin engines, the Pescarolos, the Ginetta-Zyteks…and, of course, the new official Aston Martins!
A wonderful diversity for the queen of the categories which will once again guarantee a good show.
N.B: As from 2010, LMP1 hybrid cars will be regularly classified.
Let's us remember the main LMP1 characteristics, but also the fact that since 2008, the cars are using petrol made up of 10% of ethanol, as well as Diesel BTL. It is about second-generation biofuels, elaborated from the non-edible part of plants.
•Minimum weight: 900kg for petrol-fuelled cars and 930 kg for diesels
•Wing length: 1m60
•Maximum engine capacity: 6,000cc for petrol atmospheric engines, 4,000cc for turbo engines and 5,500cc for diesel engines
•Maximum disc diameter: 38cm
•Tank capacity: 90 litres (81 litres for diesel engines)
•Headlamp beam: White
•Race numbers: 1-24
•LMP1 Category sticker: red

REBELLION RACING 1000 KM OF SPA PREVIEW
POSTED BY TEAM IN PRESS RELEASE ON MAY 2, 2011
REBELLION Racing now heads to the legendary circuit of Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium for the 1000 km of Spa, second round of both the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup and the Le Mans Series.
The Swiss team will face extremely strong competition at Spa, which is the last "dress rehearsal" before next month's Le Mans 24 Hours with seven diesel-powered cars being present, including three factory Peugeots and three factory Audis, as well as the regular ILMC and LMS competitors.
Spa-Francorchamps, the historical home of the Belgian Formula 1 Grand Prix, is renowned as one of the drivers' favourite circuits in the world, featuring classic corners like Eau Rouge. The track is fast, hilly and twisty, and it is subject to a local climate that can make weather conditions extremely variable. With nearly 60 cars that will take the start of the race, traffic will add more spice to the challenge.
With a good season debut, strong reliability from the new RV8KLM Toyota engine, the introduction of a brand new aerokit and upgrades during the Le Mans 24 Hours test day, REBELLION Racing is heading to the Belgian Ardennes with confidence.
The #12 and #13 Lola Toyota powered REBELLION Racing cars will aim for strong placings amongst the "factory" cars, in order to score maximum points for the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup and Le Mans Series championships.
REBELLION Racing is currently second in the LMS Teams’ classification, one point behind the leader, after achieving a double LMP1 podium at the 8 Hours of Le Castellet.
With REBELLION Racing cars, Lola-Toyota is leading the LMS Manufacturers’ classification with a ten points lead.
REBELLION Racing is fourth in the ILMC Teams’ classification, the first petrol team classified behind Peugeot’s and Audi teams after the 12 Hours of Sebring race.
Bart Hayden, REBELLION Racing Team Manager :
“We are very much looking forward to seeing how our cars perform at Spa with the new aero package, the longer wheelbase, new front suspension and wider front tyres provided by Michelin. We will be facing most of the regular ILMC and LMS rivals in the same race event with six factory diesel-powered cars, but we're all feeling confident and upbeat as we head to Spa-Francorchamps, we will concentrate on our own race to target the best position overall.
After Le Mans 24 Hours test day, we will have a race to compare the equivalence between diesel and petrol engines. We hope that the ACO will have a close look at the data that all the cars are recording for them, to make the right decisions for next month’s Le Mans 24 Hours.”
The 1000 km of Spa race will take place on Saturday May 7 from 14:00 to 20:00. Eurosport and Eurosport 2 will broadcast live nearly 4 hours of the race, including the final hour.

After a very strong race, the two cars of Rebellion Racing, Lolas-Toyota #12 & #13 finished in 7th and 9th place in the 1000 km of Spa-Francorchamps. The « virtual first » petrol car position was missed because of damaged bodywork issues that forced both cars to lose precious time in the pits. Nevertheless, Rebellion Racing scored valuable points for both ILMC and LMS championships.
First petrol car on the grid with Lola-Toyota #12, Nicolas Prost started the race from the 3rd row. After his first scheduled pitstop, Nico had to stop again to replace the rear-end of the car after a contact with a GT in Eau Rouge. With total commitment, the two drivers, Neel Jani and Nicolas Prost, were able to recover to 7th place overall, half a lap behind #16, which was the first petrol car.
Starting from the back of the grid, Andrea Belicchi in Lola-Toyota #13 had a very good opening double stint and went from 50th to 11th place. Jean-Christophe Boullion continued the effort but was forced to stop twice due to official marshall's decision to repair the left rear end of the bodywork of the car. At the end of the race, #13 was passed by a recovering Peugeot #9 and finished in 9th place.
Bart Hayden, Team Manager :
« Appart from some minor bodywork issues following little knocks in the traffic, both cars ran faultlessly and showed strong mechanical reliability. With Le Mans 24 Hours in only four weeks time, this is the main positive that we take from this week-end.
The final classification could have been slightly better for both cars but the points they have scored today in both the ILMC and LMS championships are very important. In ILMC, we have strenghened our fourth place in the Teams' Classification and the first petrol car team. In LMS, we are strongly in a position to contest for the championship win in both Teams' and Drivers' Classifications. In the LMS Manufacturers' Championship, we have extended Lola-Toyota's lead. The team have shown this week-end their professionalism, skill and ability in the face of difficulties, like having to rebuild the car overnight on day one. »
Nicolas Prost, Lola-Toyota #12 :
«We had a litle lack of luck today. Because of the trafic, the contact with the Ferrari was unaviodable. Neel and I did a very good race. With our good position on the grid and our pace during the race, we have shown that we have the faster petrol car. Both Rebellion Racing cars were reliable and scored good points today.»
Neel Jani, Lola-Toyota #12 :
« In a way, I have the same feeling that I had at the 6 Hours of Le Castellet. We have the fastest petrol car but we haven't finished in the position of the first petrol car. We had a problem with the bodywork at the rear-end of the car that cost us the best result we could have expected. I'm satisfied by our race, but not by the result. »
Jean-Christophe Boullion, Lola-Toyota #13 :
«Once again, we have missed a good result because of a detail. I'm not satisfied by finishing in the 9th place. Of course we did a strong race but it was not enough. I'm sure that we can have better result in the forthcoming races.»
Andrea Belicchi, Lola-Toyota #13 :
« We are happy because we have finished the race without a mistake. We had a problem with bodywork that's why we lost our good position. Anyway, that's the race. After the Thursday crash, we were not expecting to be in position to score good points for the championship. The team did fantastically well to repair the car, they deserved a decent result !»

Neel Jani in Lola-Toyota N°12 secured the first place non diesel car in the third and final qualification session for the 2011 24 hours of Le Mans. With a lap time of 3'32''883, the Swiss driver also secured 8th position overall on the grid.
Andrea Belicchi in Lola-Toyota N°13 couldn't do better than the 10th overall fastest lap after being hindered by traffic during his qualifying laps.
Neel Jani, driver of Lola-Toyota #12
« After yesterday's test sessions, we have improved the car a lot. I have made my best lap time because of good sector 1 and 3. Despite having traffic in sector 2, I was able to bank a good lap. I'm really happy to get the « pole position » of petrol cars because the Pescarolo car is very strong here, in particular with a higher top speed than our Rebellions on the straights. I'm happy for all the Rebellion team who worked hard for that. All three of the drivers in our car will do our best to get the same result at the end of the race... »
Andrea Belicchi, driver of Lola-Toyota #13
« I had traffic during my quick laps. So I couldn't made a good qualifying lap at the level of the improvement that we made on the car. But I'm pleased with the work we've done on the car. I'm very confident for the race ».
Bart Hayden, Rebellion Racing Team Manager
« We spent most of the free practice and qualifying sessions working to find a good race set up for our cars. Pescarolo pushed us really hard for the petrol pole, so we are very happy to secure the fastest petrol grid position. Hopefully, the setup work that we've carried out will help translate into a good race result, we are very much looking forward to the race now.».
How to identify at a glance both Lola-Toyota cars in the dark ?
