Toyota regains lead in global sales
Toyota has regained the title of world’s biggest car manufacturer after a catastrophic 2011 when they dropped to third place behind General Motors and the Volkswagen Group.
This achievement has to do with an 18 percent increase in demand last quarter in the United States for Camry sedans and Prius hybrids. In the quarter that ended on September 30 they delivered 2.43 million cars, compared to the same period of last year when 2.06 million cars were sold. These figures include subsidiaries Hino Motors Ltd. and Daihatsu Motor Co.
Toyota sold so far 7.4 million cars, while General Motors delivered 6.95 million vehicles. The Japanese automaker seems to have some problems in China were sales have fallen in September by 49 percent, but these profit drops are minimized by a 20 percent increase in sales this October in the United States. Toyota’s group vice president for U.S. sales Bill Fay is aiming for a 30 percent increase this year in the U.S.
