Scion FR-S race car roars into Detroit with 600 hp
It looks like the Subaru BRZ GT300 won't be the only racing variant of the Toyota GT 86 as Scion has unveiled the FR-S race car in Detroit.
Jointly developed with GReddy, the 600 hp (447 kW / 608 PS) coupe will compete in the 2012 Formula DRIFT series with Ken Gushi behind the wheel. Additional information is limited, but the car features an aerodynamic body kit, a massive rear wing and a race-spec interior.
The company also announced plans to launch a "First 86" program to cope with the overwhelming demand for the standard model. Starting on January 12th at noon EST, Scion will begin accepting pre-orders for the first 86 vehicles via the ScionFirst86 website. The order books will only be open for eight hours and six minutes, so you should probably schedule your lunch break accordingly.
In related news, Scion revealed the FR-S will come become the first model to offer the BeSpoke infotainment system. Created by Pioneer, the system "aims to offer a higher level of connectivity with features that drivers have been asking for such as access to a wide variety of personalized content and services." That's pretty vague, but we should learn more in the coming months.
