No sooner had Toyota announced that it was working on an open-top version of the 86 when an eagle-eyed reader spotted a production-spec model here in Cape Town.

The white Toyota 86 Convertible was sighted in Paarden Eiland, Cape Town, by reader Allan Findlay. The car was being closely guarded behind security gates but Allan managed to take a fine trio of shots showing off the car.

Toyota had intimated that it will show off a concept dubbed the FT-86 Open at this year’s Geneva Motor Show and that a number of prototypes were undergoing preliminary tests, but these photos appear to show that the Toyota 86 Convertible is pretty much a production reality.

Let’s see what Toyota has to say at the Geneva Motor Show on March 5th.
