Votos de rápida recuperaçãoAlex Wurz: “Despite the disappointment on track, I am happy to see that Anthony is okay; that is the most important thing. We have seen some positive aspects of our car, which showed a good level of performance. We have also seen where we need to improve; this race has shown us some important lessons we can work on in the coming weeks. I was a little surprise to see our rivals not getting faster, but it is a nice reward for everybody to lead the Le Mans 24 Hours at our first attempt. We have really shown a strong pace and gained some interesting information.”
Nicolas Lapierre: “I am disappointed to see the team retiring with both cars but on the other hand I think we can be happy with our level of performance. We have been fighting with the leaders with both cars which is a great achievement. We need to improve our reliability, which we knew anyway after a short testing programme before this race; the program is young and that was our first race. We did a good qualifying and a great start in the race. I am also thinking about Anthony; above all right now the main thing is that he recovers quickly.”
Kazuki Nakajima: “I was sad to hear about Anthony’s injury and, like the whole team I hope he gets well soon. It was a real disappointment to end the race early; our dream was to see the chequered flag. We had a good start but during my stint I had contact with another car after the safety car period and then right after that we found an unrelated problem. We lost time there. I did some night running in difficult conditions; I had a flat spot on one tyre and big vibrations. It was difficult to get the temperature into the tyres and I struggled a bit to get them to work.”
Stéphane Sarrazin: “Firstly I am relieved that Anthony got out of such an accident and I hope he gets better quickly. Regarding the race, the car was competitive and after being cautious at the beginning, we were really on the pace. We were in a very good rhythm, with both cars in top three. For a car that has made is first laps only a few months ago, it is amazing to be at this level at Le Mans. There is some disappointment, of course, but we have to take the positives out of this experience.”
Sébastien Buemi: “It was an unbelievable day for me to start Le Mans for the first time and we gave a great performance until the accident. The car was really quick and we were giving the leaders a lot of problems. So that is definitely the positive to take out of this race for us because it shows we already have a very strong car. This should give a lot of motivation and excitement to the team. It was amazing; I really enjoyed it. The team worked so hard and we deserved much better than what we got but at least we showed what we are capable of by leading the race. For Anthony I am really disappointed; we look forward to him being back as soon as possible.”
Segue a entrevista a Anthony Davidson
During the Le Mans 24 Hours, TOYOTA Racing’s Anthony Davidson suffered a heavy accident at the wheel of the #8 TS030 HYBRID when he was hit by a lapped car.
He will remain in hospital until Wednesday to begin the recovery process after suffering two broken vertebrae in the impact.
The strength of the TS030 HYBRID chassis, designed and produced at TOYOTA Motorsport GmbH in Cologne, protected Anthony from any more serious outcome. Initial examinations of the chassis suggest it is intact and can be used again.
How do you feel?
Anthony Davidson (AD): I have felt better, that’s for sure. I am in a bit of pain, in my lumber area, the middle area of my back. That’s the only thing that hurts really so I’ve been lucky.
What’s the diagnosis and when will you be back?
AD: Basically I have two broken vertebrae; T11 and T12. The doctors say the average recovery time is three months, but that’s an average person not a professional sportsman or athlete. That estimate is to get back to an absolutely healed bone; as strong as it was before. It’s more like three weeks until the pain subsides and I get my mobility back fully.
Can you describe what happened to cause the accident?
AD: I was almost completely past the car after the apex of the kink. I passed a Corvette and a Ferrari with the pro driver sticker on. They were fighting each other and I just assumed the Ferrari ahead was part of their group and therefore another pro. The car was all the way to the left as you would expect a pro driver to do. It was only when I got right up to the back that I realized it was one of the amateur-stickered cars. But I still wasn’t alarmed, I still felt it was a completely legitimate move and thought he would stay to the left, which it looked like he was doing. I made the apex of the corner, started to brake and I was almost out of the corner when I felt contact on the left rear.
Can you describe what happened then?
AD: Instantly it spun the car, pivoted round to the left, then took off and turned upside down. At that point I felt I was in an aeroplane out of control. I knew how close the barriers were, and travelling at that speed I was going to be there in no time. That part of the crash was pretty petrifying. It crashed back down to the ground, I felt an almighty punch up my spine when the car hit back down on four wheels. I still had my eyes closed and my hands off the wheels, in the brace position. Half a second after that I had the forward impact into the barrier.
What happened when the car came to a stop?
AD: I reopened my eyes and realised I was still here, albeit in a bit of pain. I had feeling and could move my feet; everything was working. I know I should stay in the car, especially with back pain, but initially I felt full of panic and claustrophobia, I just had to get out of the car. It was really odd. I banged the door open and clambered out carefully because I knew I was in pain. I had to stretch out and the closest point was the side of the car, then the medics came over.
Has the team visited you already?
AD: All the drivers have been. Stéphane and Sébastien turned up last night, the #7 guys this morning and it was a nice touch that my team-mate last year Sébastien Bourdais came to the medical centre. It was nice to see a familiar, friendly face at that moment. All the team came over this morning to check how I was.
What is your feeling about the TS030 HYBRID’s race debut?
AD: When the team visited we all gave each other a pat on the back for our performance. More than anything, we wanted to show the speed of the car. When we look back, even from my hospital bed, there were a lot of positives. We needed to tick many boxes this weekend and being fast was one of them. We had a great qualifying session, splitting the Audis, and showed great pace in the race to take the lead through Nico in the #7. I think that was really good for the fans.

It was cool, I like that kind of fight and it was important to keep the advantage on them," Treluyer told AUTOSPORT. "That was the first time that I had crossed Toyota's path that weekend, I hadn't seen it on the track before then and I was surprised by the acceleration it had on the exit of the corners.
"The regulation with the hybrid systems from zero onwards for cars with hybrid power going through the rear; I think is a mistake on the regulations and they [Toyota] have a bigger advantage.
"I couldn't fight with Nicolas on the exit of corners because his hybrid system was on a lot earlier than mine. He was accelerating and coming alongside me very easily so I think they should change the regulations

Toyota says pace during early part of the Le Mans 24 Hours was genuine
Toyota team boss Pascal Vasselon says the pace the TS030 showed as it took the fight to Audi in the first quarter of the Le Mans 24 Hours was absolutely genuine and not a bid for short-term glory in a car that was not likely to make the finish.
With limited time between the approval of the TS030 programme and its race debut at Le Mans - plus the disruption of a massive testing crash - the new Toyota was always thought unlikely to last the full 24 hours, with some of its drivers admitting that qualifying might be their best chance to star.
By Saturday evening the Toyotas were running second and third, with Nicolas Lapierre in the #7 car able to pass Benoit Treluyer's #1 Audi - which would go on to win the race - for the race lead. Vasselon said that was a realistic reflection of the car's pace.
"We were not looking for an aggressive start and leading for 10 minutes," he told AUTOSPORT. "I know some people were expecting us to try to do that at the start, but no.
"The drivers knew they had to be safe at the start, then at the beginning the balance was not perfect. It was changing, the track was changing. We started on a very green track [because of the rain overnight] and it's important to be balanced for when the grip builds up, that was our target.
"So the balance changed quite quickly, the grip increased to the expected level and the pace improved. We saw that Audi's pace was consistent, ours was improving."
The #7 was subsequently delayed when Kazuki Nakajima collided with the DeltaWing, and later retired with engine failure, while the sister #8 car was involved in a horrific accident with Anthony Davidson at the wheel.
Asked if Toyota could have sustained its attack for the whole race, Vasselon replied: "I would say yes because it was not something extraordinary, not a special attack, it was our pace.
"You saw we had two cars running a very similar pace, it was not something really requiring a huge effort.
"When Nico was fighting with Treluyer we were not concerned, it was looking well under control from his side. OK, Benoit was a bit tough, but it was nothing special in terms of car settings."
Vasselon believes the TS030's race debut showed that there are some key areas where it will be able to keep Audi on its toes when their battle resumes over the rest of the World Endurance Championship season.
"I would say we have three strengths in our car," he said.
"The hybrid system has worked consistently well all through qualifying and the race, aero is good, and the biggest benefit in the race is our tyre management.
"The car is very kind on tyres. We went to four stints [on each set of tyres] and that is where we made up the ground."
